Web development is one of the most AI-accelerated fields you can enter currently. Developers who understand the fundamentals, how code works, how databases connect and how websites are deployed, are the ones using AI tools to build faster, ship more and stand out. This course gives you that foundation across the full stack, from your first HTML element to a live multi-page front-end or WordPress website deployed to cloud or shared web hosting.
You will work with experienced teachers, with every session recorded on Brightspace so you can attend in person, join live via WebEx, or catch up later by watching the recorded classes. Hackathon events and TechTalk sessions with industry professionals run throughout the semester.
What You'll Study
• HTML & CSS - Build accessible, W3C-compliant websites using HTML5 and CSS3 in Visual Studio Code and Cursor. Learn the visual and structural foundations that underpin modern website development.
• JavaScript - Develop interactive web applications, connect to APIs and build modern user interfaces using Bootstrap. This subject includes a formally assessed unit on emerging web technologies, covering AI-assisted development tools.
• Dynamic Web Development - Learn server-side PHP, SQL databases, WordPress development and live website deployment. Progress from building static web pages to fully functioning dynamic web applications using technologies widely adopted in the web development industry.
• Emerging ICT Technologies - Build the critical thinking and professional skills needed to evaluate emerging technologies, including Figma, AI-assisted design tools and modern development practices for real organisational requirements.
• Working in ICT - Develop your understanding of AI-assisted development, intellectual property, privacy, ethics, cyber security risk and professional practice within digital team environments.
• Front End Design & Development - Learn to create modern websites with strong UI and UX through responsive layouts and technical SEO. Discover why search engine optimisation is increasingly important as website discovery evolves through AI Overviews and generative search.
• Open Lab - Attend optional teacher-supported sessions where you can bring your own projects, experiment with AI web development tools and receive direct feedback on your work both within and outside assessed coursework.
