The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care supports educators ready to progress into leadership roles within early learning services. Graduates are well prepared for roles such as Room Leader, Educational Leader, Coordinator or Early Childhood Service Director.

Studying the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at Holmesglen

At Holmesglen, you’ll build advanced skills to design, implement and evaluate high-quality education and care programs that support children’s learning, development and wellbeing. The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care develops your understanding of the National Quality Framework, including the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standards, while strengthening your ability to lead teams, mentor others and contribute to inclusive early learning environments.<p>Learning combines classroom study with extensive practical experience, including structured industry placement in registered education and care services. You’ll learn in modern early childhood facilities and be supported by experienced educators with strong industry knowledge. With personalised guidance throughout the course, Holmesglen supports you to grow in confidence, meet industry requirements and prepare for leadership roles in the early childhood sector.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for this course, students must meet the following requirements:<p> - Hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121 or CHC30113).<p> - English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0 (or equivalent).<br> For equivalent English language tests see <a href="https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/student-500#Eligibility">https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/student-500#Eligibility</a>.<p> - Be at least 18 years old when the course begins.<p> - Must be able to participate in industry placements. A current Working With Children Check card is necessary for placement.<p> - Must be physically capable of fulfilling the practicum requirements.<p> - You may need to provide evidence of the COVID-19 vaccination for placement in an education and care service.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

<strong>Study structure and delivery</strong><br>The program is delivered over four days per week, comprising two days of classes and two days of structured practical placement.<p>• Class hours: 9am – 4pm, scheduled Monday to Friday<br>• Practical placement hours: 300 hours total, completed as two 7.5-hour days per week<br>• Placement hours may occur between 6.30am and 6.30pm in a registered education and care service<p>This structure provides hands-on training and real-world experience, supported by learning in state-of-the-art early childhood facilities with experienced educators and industry professionals.<p><strong>Units of competency</strong><br>To achieve this qualification, students must complete 15 units:<p>• 12 core units<br>• 3 elective units<p>Elective units are selected by Holmesglen based on industry feedback and are structured into learning clusters. Eligible units previously completed may be credited towards this course.

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

General Services Fee $80 Per Semester

The General Services Fee (GSF) at Holmesglen is a mandatory annual fee applicable to all students enrolled in Certificate I through Advanced Diploma courses. This fee supports various student services such as counselling, welfare support, and learning assistance provided by our dedicated student support and wellbeing teams. Additional Course Cost

Up to $30 for external accreditation of Safe Sleeping Certificate (SIDS) (optional). <br>Up to $90 for a Victorian Police Check.

An additional administration fee may apply where the application is submitted directly to Holmesglen and not through a Holmesglen-approved education agent.

Tuition Fee Protection Service
