Course Overview

The CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care develops the skills and knowledge to work as an early childhood educator and leader in education and care services. You'll learn how to design, implement and evaluate educational programs that support children's learning, development and wellbeing while creating safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments.<p><p>Through practical learning and industry placement, you'll build skills in leading and mentoring educators, supporting children and families, and coordinating the delivery of early childhood education and care programs.</p><p><p>The qualification can support progression into roles such as Room Leader, Educational Leader, Coordinator or Early Childhood Service Director.</p>

Studying the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at Holmesglen

Study the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at Holmesglen's <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/campuses/glen-waverley">Glen Waverley campus</a>, where you'll learn in purpose-designed early childhood facilities that reflect real education and care environments.<p>Through practical activities, you'll have opportunities to apply classroom theory and develop your communication, leadership, planning and professional practice when working with children, families and other educators.<p>You'll be supported by experienced Holmesglen teachers with industry knowledge, with guidance and feedback throughout your studies. Your industry placement in registered education and care services provides further opportunities to apply your learning in real workplace settings and build experience within the early childhood sector.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for this course, students must meet the following requirements:<p> - Hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121 or CHC30113).<p> - English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0 (or equivalent).<br> For equivalent English language tests see <a href="https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/student-500#Eligibility">https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/student-500#Eligibility</a>.<p> - Be at least 18 years old when the course begins.<p> - Must be able to participate in industry placements. A current Working With Children Check card is necessary for placement.<p> - Must be physically capable of fulfilling the practicum requirements.<p> - You may need to provide evidence of the COVID-19 vaccination for placement in an education and care service

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

The CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is structured across four days per week, comprising:<br>• Two days of classes per week <br>• Two days of structured practical placement per week <br>Classes run from 9.00am to 4.00pm and may be scheduled from Monday to Friday.<p><strong>Practical placement</strong><br>You must complete a total of 300 hours of practical placement in a registered early childhood education and care service. Placement is generally undertaken over two 7.5-hour days per week.<br>Placement start and finish times will vary according to the service and may be scheduled between 6.30am and 6.30pm.<br>This structure allows you to connect your classroom learning with practical experience throughout the course, applying your knowledge in real early childhood education and care environments.<p><strong>Units of competency</strong><br>To achieve this qualification, you must successfully complete 15 units of competency: 12 core units and 3 elective units.<br>Elective units have been selected by Holmesglen based on industry feedback, with units structured into clusters to support integrated learning and assessment.<p><strong>Previously completed units</strong><br>If you have already completed eligible units of competency, they may be counted towards this qualification, subject to Holmesglen's credit transfer requirements.
