Entry Requirements

To enrol in the SIT30125 Certificate III in Tourism (Tour Guiding), applicants must:<p>• Be 18 years of age or older at the commencement of the course. <br>• Have an interest in tourism, travel and tour guiding. <br>• Be willing to participate in practical learning activities, including simulated and real-world guiding experiences. <br>• Have basic digital skills or be willing to learn to use online learning technologies and digital resources. <p>Before enrolment, all applicants will complete a pre-training review to discuss their career goals, previous experience, and suitability for the course. Holmesglen will also assess each applicant's language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills through evidence of previous study or, where required, a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) assessment. This process helps ensure learners are well prepared for the course and identifies any support that may assist them to successfully complete the qualification.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

The SIT30125 Certificate III in Tourism (Tour Guiding) consists of 15 units of competency, including 4 core and 11 elective units. Electives have been selected by Holmesglen in consultation with industry to align with current tour guiding roles and practices.<p><strong>Course delivery</strong><p>Classes are held on campus two days per week, Wednesday and Friday, from 9:30am to 4:00pm.<p>The course follows a structured sequence, beginning with tourism and destination knowledge, progressing to guiding skills, customer engagement and visitor assistance, and concluding with advanced guiding activities and first aid.<p><strong>Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning</strong><p>Learners with relevant previous study or industry experience may be eligible for credit transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) towards the qualification.

Additional Course Cost

Learners are required to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for all practical activities. <br> <br>Students must supply the following personal items: <br>• Closed-toe walking shoes <br>• Personal sunscreen <br>• Wet weather protection (e.g. rain jacket or poncho) <br> <br>The estimated cost of these items is approximately $100. <br> <br>Learners should also allow for the cost of public transport to and from some practical activities and excursions conducted as part of the course. The cost will vary depending on the activity and the learner's eligibility for concession fares. <br> <br>Any additional safety equipment required for practical activities will be provided by the Institute.
