Course Overview

The SIT30125 Certificate III in Tourism develops practical skills and industry knowledge for the travel and tourism sector. You'll learn about Australian and international destinations, tourism products and services, customer service, destination research, sales and preparing quotes for clients. Practical activities include promoting an international destination at an in-house tourism trade show, where you'll put your tourism knowledge and presentation skills into practice.<p><p>This course is delivered through the <strong>VET Delivered to Secondary School Students (VETDSS)</strong> program and must be completed as part of your <strong>VCE or VCE VM studies</strong>. Successful completion may contribute credits towards your VCE or VCE VM and provide a pathway to further study in <strong>travel and tourism</strong>.</p>

Studying the Certificate III in Tourism at Holmesglen

Study the SIT30125 Certificate III in Tourism at Holmesglen through practical, hands-on learning designed for secondary school students. You'll work with tourism resources and industry booking systems, using real-world information such as flight schedules, destination information and travel products to complete practical activities.<p>Supported by experienced Holmesglen teachers, you'll practise using industry systems to plan travel, make flight bookings and issue domestic air tickets. The course is delivered at the <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/campuses/glen-waverley">Glen Waverley campus</a> and <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/campuses/moorabbin">Moorabbin campus</a>, providing a supportive environment where you can build confidence using the tools and processes found in the travel and tourism industry.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in the SIT30125 Certificate III in Tourism, learners must be currently enrolled in Years 10–12 and undertaking the VCE or VCE VM curriculum.<p><strong>School suitability assessment</strong><br>The learner's secondary school is responsible for determining their suitability for the course and confirming they have the required language, literacy, numeracy and foundation skills before commencement.<br>Learners should be able to:<br>• evaluate and interpret information from a range of familiar and unfamiliar texts <br>• interpret tables, charts and other graphical information <br>• use information from brochures, online resources, industry systems and trade publications <br>• use flight schedules and online systems to prepare travel plans <br>• complete tasks within required timeframes <br>• communicate effectively and raise issues during team discussions

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Classes for the SIT30125 Certificate III in Tourism are held on campus every Wednesday afternoon from 1:30pm to 5:00pm. <br>In addition to attending these sessions, you will be required to complete online learning activities and independent study in your own time, which will amount to approximately 2 hours per week. <br>This structure ensures you can reinforce the skills and knowledge gained during class through self-directed learning and practice.
