Studying the Certificate IV in Leisure and Health at Holmesglen

At Holmesglen, you’ll develop practical, job-ready skills to design, deliver and evaluate person-centred leisure and lifestyle programs for older people in residential aged care and community settings. The Certificate IV in Leisure and Health focuses on supporting wellbeing and quality of life, while building your understanding of how leisure and health programs are delivered in real workplace environments.<p>Your learning combines classroom study with hands-on experience, including a minimum of 120 hours of work placement. You’ll learn to work collaboratively with other health and care professionals, such as personal care assistants, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Throughout the course, experienced educators provide guidance and support to help you build confidence, apply your skills in practice and prepare for employment in the growing aged care sector.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 18 years of age.
Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to provide:<br>- a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check<br>- an NDIS Worker Clearance Check<br>- an International Police Check, or, a Statutory Declaration confirming no previous criminal convictions<br>- a WWC Check Card (Volunteer)<br>- evidence of influenza (flu) vaccination (required from May each year)<br>- evidence of three Covid-19 vaccinations (still required by most Residential Aged Care facilities)<p>Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

To receive this qualification, you must complete 10 core units and seven elective units. Holmesglen has selected elective units based on industry feedback to ensure graduates develop job-ready skills. Eligible units completed previously may be credited towards this program.<p><strong>Study commitment</strong><br>Students are required to attend classes one day per week from 9.30am to 4.00pm. In addition, up to six hours per week of online learning activities and unsupervised study is required.<p><strong>Practical placement</strong><br>From approximately 10 weeks after course commencement, students must complete practical placement at least one day per week for the duration of the course. Students may source their own placement in consultation with teaching staff to ensure it aligns with learning objectives. Holmesglen can also assist in identifying suitable placement opportunities. An assessor will visit the workplace to provide support and assess skills against course requirements.

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

The General Services Fee (GSF) at Holmesglen is a mandatory annual fee applicable to all students enrolled in Certificate I through Advanced Diploma courses. This fee supports various student services such as counselling, welfare support, and learning assistance provided by our dedicated student support and wellbeing teams. Additional Course Cost

Additional costs will be incurred for: <br>- a National Police Records Check (approx. $30) <br>- an Influenza (Flu) vaccination (approx. $25). <br>- a WWC card check- Employee (approx $131) <br>- a NDIS Worker Clearance Check (approx $131) <br>Note: It is suggested that students also check their immunisation status against other common diseases and organise vaccinations as required. The cost of additional vaccinations would vary depending on how many are required.
