Overview

The Certificate IV in Youth Work prepares you to support young people across community, education and outreach settings. Through practical, interactive classes led by experienced youth-work teachers, you will learn to build trust, assess needs and respond to a range of social, behavioural and wellbeing issues. Training covers cultural awareness, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, crisis response and group facilitation. Graduates finish with strong, work-ready skills to promote positive outcomes for teens and young adults.

Studying the Certificate IV in Youth Work at Holmesglen

Studying the Certificate IV in Youth Work at Holmesglen gives you practical, hands-on experience in supporting young people across community and outreach settings. Learners develop essential skills to communicate effectively, build trust and respond to the social, behavioural and wellbeing needs of teens and young adults. Training covers cultural diversity, health and safety, assessing needs, referring to support services, encouraging community participation and responding to critical situations such as homelessness. You will also learn to support young people facing mental health, alcohol and other drug challenges. With guidance from experienced youth-work teachers, you will practise running group sessions, building rapport and developing the confidence needed to achieve positive outcomes for young people.

Entry Requirements

Students must be 18 years old at the start of the course.<br>Student may need to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and a National Police check prior to working in the sector.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability for the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training.
