Overview

The Diploma of Community Services prepares you for professional work across the social and community services sector, including mental health, family and domestic violence, migrant support and employment services. This interactive and supportive course runs two days a week over 18 months and blends face-to-face learning with our e-learning platform. You will complete a 100-hour practical placement arranged by dedicated placement officers and develop real-world skills through immersive simulations that build confidence in client intake, assessment and counselling.

Studying the Diploma of Community Services at Holmesglen

Studying the Diploma of Community Services at Holmesglen gives you a highly practical and supportive learning experience. Guided by skilled and experienced teachers, you’ll develop the professional skills needed for client assessment, case management, communication, advocacy and working with diverse communities. Learning is delivered through a blend of face-to-face classes and our e-learning platform, along with immersive simulations where trained actors play the role of clients. You’ll also complete a 100-hour industry placement arranged by our dedicated placement officers, giving you real experience, confidence and strong preparation for work in the community services sector.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be aged at least 18 at course commencement and are required to<br>• commit to 100 hours of mandatory fieldwork placement during their course.<p>Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to:<br>• provide a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check<br>• provide a Working with Children Check<br>• You may be required to apply for an NDIS Worker Screening Check.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Timetable

<strong>Face to Face delivery</strong><br>Through our face-to-face delivery mode, you will attend classes 2 days per week for the duration of your course, from 9.30am to 3.30pm at Moorabbin campus. There will be no attendance requirement during Victorian school holiday times. This delivery mode is recommended for students who are new to the community services sector or to diploma level study.

General Services Fee $80 Per Semester

The General Services Fee (GSF) at Holmesglen is a mandatory annual fee applicable to all students enrolled in Certificate I through Advanced Diploma courses. This fee supports various student services such as counselling, welfare support, and learning assistance provided by our dedicated student support and wellbeing teams. Additional Course Cost

Students will be required to obtain a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check. The approximate cost of these items is $140.
