Study the SHB30121 Certificate III in Beauty Services (VDSS – Partial Program) at Holmesglen and gain hands-on experience in key beauty services, including makeup, cosmetic tanning, lash and brow treatments, and eyelash extensions. Build essential customer service and client consultation skills while training in simulated salon environments. This program offers flexible learning via on-campus or online delivery and provides a strong foundation for further studies or entry-level work in the beauty industry, equipping you with the skills needed to succeed professionally.<p>This VDSS part time qualification runs for two years, with classes scheduled one day a week for four hours at our Moorabbin and Glen Waverley campuses, simulating authentic salon environments. Remote online access is available via WebEx on the Brightspace learning management system when needed allowing for flexible participation. The systematic structure of this program means you will build your technical abilities across makeup artistry, cosmetic tanning, manicure & pedicure, eyelash extensions, waxing, lash lifts, lash and brow styling, and salon client care across sequenced groups of units.<p>The VDSS qualification provides students an opportunity to develop foundational industry knowledge and key employability skills while still undertaking secondary schooling. This program forms a stepping stone toward further studies. Students may be eligible to receive Credit Transfer for completed units towards the SHB40121 Certificate IV in Beauty Services or the SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy, or can pursue entry-level work in the beauty sector. All VDSS students receive guidance and training in online research, referencing, and basic digital skills required for assessment, such as preparing Word documents, using search engines, and accessing resources on Holmesglen’s LMS.<p>This course is available only to students enrolled in the VCE or VCE Vocational Major (VM) as part of their secondary school program, and is designed to equip you with the essential foundation for a future career or further training in beauty services

Studying the Certificate III in Beauty Services at Holmesglen

At Holmesglen, we focus on making sure you have a strong customer-service approach when consulting with clients, so you're ready to walk into a job at your future salon. The Certificate III in Beauty Services SHB30121 is a two-year program delivered one day a week on campus.<p>In the first year, students will complete make-up, spray tanning, e-file for nail services, manicures and pedicures as well as learn how to use salon software, conduct financial transactions, sell retail products and develop customer service skills.<p>First Aid is also completed in the first year. <p>In the second year, students build on their makeup skills and complete makeup for photography, eyelash extensions, waxing, eyelash lifting and tinting, eyebrow shaping and tinting & learn health and hygiene regulations.<p>This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students (previously VETiS ) program and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCE VM program.

Entry Requirements

There are no specified entry requirements.Students are required to be current school students and enrolled in the VETDSS program in either Year 10, 11 or 12 at one of the schools that Holmesglen has an agreement with.<p>Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you may be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan and identify any learning support needs.<p>Students are required to have basic computer skills, mainly to prepare Word and Excel documents, turn a computer on and off, use search engines such as Google, type documents, and access the Holmesglen learning management system and research topics relevant to industry information and sources.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. <strong>Course structure and delivery</strong><br>Students participate in the SHB30121 Certificate III in Beauty Services one day per week for four hours per session across both years of study. Classes combine practical and theoretical learning and are delivered through a mix of face-to-face on-campus sessions and virtual classes via WebEx, providing flexibility while maintaining engagement.<p><strong>Units of competency</strong><br>To achieve this qualification, learners must successfully complete 18 units, comprising 14 core units and 4 elective units.<p>Elective units are selected to support vocational outcomes as skilled beauticians, enabling graduates to offer an expanded range of beauty services within the industry.
