Overview

If you’re interested in nutrition, healthy eating, and supporting people’s wellbeing, the HLT43021 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (Nutrition and Dietetic Support) provides practical skills for working in allied health settings. This course combines nutrition theory with hands-on learning in a simulated clinic and real workplace environments. You’ll gain skills in meal planning support, nutrition screening, and dietary assistance, and complete up to 120 hours of industry placement, preparing you to support dietitians and nutrition professionals.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be aged at least 18 at course commencement. You will also be required to provide a Working with Children Check.<p>Prior to undertaking clinical placement, students will need to provide evidence of:<br>- student health and immunisation status (costs will vary but is usually between $100 and $500)<br>- complete a National Police Records Check annually (between $25 - $50)<br>- hold a valid Working with Children Check for volunteers (free)<br>- immunizations, including those for COVID-19 and influenza.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

<strong>Study delivery and structure</strong><br>Students attend Holmesglen three to three and a half days per week (depending on the semester) for six hours per day. Classes are delivered through a combination of face-to-face and remote online learning via Webex on Brightspace, and include both theoretical and practical sessions using clustered, co-delivered and single-unit delivery.<p>To be awarded the HLT43021 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, students must complete 18 units of competency, including 10 core units and 8 elective units. Electives support the nutrition and dietetics specialisation and include HLTAHA041, HLTAHA039, HLTAHA040, HLTAHA043, HLTAHA042, CHCCCS001, CHCLAH001 and CHCPRP003.<p><strong>Assessment and practical placement</strong><br>Assessment is aligned with industry standards and includes a range of practical activities and tasks.<br>Ten clustered units (CHCPRP003, HLTAHA047, HLTAHA041, HLTAHA039, HLTAHA040, HLTAHA043, HLTAHA042, HLTAHA027, HLTINF006, CHCCCS038 and HLTAHA049) are linked to practical placement. These units are delivered either throughout the course or in the semester prior to placement and are assessed through knowledge tasks, case studies, observations, placement logbooks and third-party evidence.

Students will be required to wear appropriate clothing and footwear when undertaking practical activities.
