Study the SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy at Holmesglen's <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/campuses/glen-waverley">Glen Waverley campus</a>, where practical training takes place in professional salon and spa-style learning environments designed to reflect the beauty industry.<p>You'll be supported by experienced Holmesglen teachers with industry knowledge, with guidance and feedback as you build your professional practice. You'll work with professional-grade beauty products and equipment and gain experience working with real clients through the course's simulated salon activities. holmesglen.edu.au<p>The learning experience extends beyond the classroom through Industry Connection Days, which can include industry incursions, excursions, voluntary work placements and simulated spa experiences. These activities provide opportunities to connect your training with current beauty industry practices and professional expectations.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 17 years of age.<p>Learners should have the physical capacity to be able to successfully work within the field where they may be required to conduct their work typically within a spa, beauty, waxing, brow or nail salon or providing a massage treatment while making sure they are in compliance with all manual handling WHS legislation.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training review at an interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. <strong>Course delivery</strong><br>Students attend classes four days per week, with each six-hour session comprising a combination of theory and practical instruction, learning activities, and assessment tasks.<br>Three days per week are dedicated to structured unit delivery, while the fourth day provides an opportunity for applied learning.<p><strong>Semester 1</strong><br>The fourth day is conducted as a simulated salon environment, enabling students to complete practical assessments on real clients.<p><strong>Semester 2</strong><br>The fourth day transitions to an Industry Connection Day, where students participate in industry-based learning activities such as incursions, excursions, voluntary work placements, and simulated spa experiences to further enhance their practical skills and industry readiness.<p><strong>Units of competency</strong><br>To successfully complete the SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy, learners must complete a total of 29 units of competency, comprising:<br>• 20 core units<br>• 9 elective units<br>The 9 elective units must include:<p><strong>Group A – Infection Control</strong><br>• SHBBINF002 - Maintain infection control standards<p><strong>Group D – Spa Treatments</strong><br>All units from this complete specialist stream:<br>• SHBBBOS009 - Provide aromatherapy massages<br>• SHBBSPA005 - Work in a spa therapies framework<br>• SHBBSPA006 - Provide spa therapies<br>• SHBBSPA007 - Provide stone therapy massages<p><strong>Remaining elective units</strong><br>Remaining elective units are selected from the list provided for this qualification, from elsewhere in the SHB Training Package, or from any other current training package or accredited course, in line with packaging rules:<br>• SHBBMUP010 - Design and apply make up for photography<br>• SHBBMUP008 - Apply eyelash extensions<br>• SHBBBOS007 - Apply cosmetic tanning products

Additional Course Cost

Students undertaking this qualification must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all practical activities to meet health, safety and industry requirements. <br> <br>The Material Fee covers the beauty kits and uniform provided to learners. In addition to this fee, learners are responsible for purchasing and supplying: <br> <br>- Black, loose-fitting pants suitable for a salon environment. <br> <br>- Black Closed-toe, non-slip shoes with rubber soles. <br> <br>Optional excursions may also be offered at an additional cost and are separate from the costs included in the program. The estimated cost of the required personal items and any optional excursions is approximately $150, in addition to the Material Fee. <br> <br>If additional safety equipment is required for a particular training activity, Holmesglen will provide it.
