The department will confirm the cost of these activities/materials prior to your enrolment.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 17 years of age.<p>Learners should have the physical capacity to be able to successfully work within the field where they may be required to conduct their work typically within a spa, beauty, waxing, brow or nail salon or providing a massage treatment while making sure they are in compliance with all manual handling WHS legislation.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training review at an interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Timetable

To successfully complete the SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy, learners must complete a total of 29 units of competency, comprising:<br>20 Core Units<br>9 Elective Units, which must include:<br><strong>1 unit from Group A – Infection Control</strong><br>SHBBINF002 – Maintain infection control standards<p><strong>All units from one complete specialist stream – Group D: Spa Treatments</strong><br>SHBBBOS009 – Provide aromatherapy massages<br>SHBBSPA005 – Work in a spa therapies framework<br>SHBBSPA006 – Provide spa therapies<br>SHBBSPA007 – Provide stone therapy massages<p><strong>Remaining elective units</strong> selected from the list provided for this qualification, elsewhere in the SHB Training Package, or from any other current training package or accredited course, in line with packaging rules:<br>SHBBMUP010 – Design and apply makeup for photography<br>SHBBMUP008 – Apply eyelash extensions<br>SHBBBOS007 – Apply cosmetic tanning products

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Additional Course Cost

Students will be required to wear personal protective equipement (PPE) when undertaking practical activities. The PPE students are required to supply are: <br>* Closed toe, non slip shoes <br> <br>Optional excursions may be offered at an additional cost to the excursions included in the program. <br> <br>The total cost of these items and excursion is approximately $150. <br> <br>If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute. <br>All fees are indicative only.
