The Bachelor of Sports Media has been designed to nurture students that aspire to work in the sports media industry. The course has four streams: sport, media, journalism, and communications. Students will be equipped to work in a variety of roles with sports leagues and clubs, sports media organisations, media organisations and sports agencies.

Studying the Bachelor of Sports Media at Holmesglen

This degree facilitates real world opportunities for students, ensuring they learn more and do more and are prepared for an exciting sports media career. <p>The course offers significant applied learning opportunities where students function as consultants to sporting organisations developing the skills required by industry. <p>The experienced academic staff have extensive industry experience in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, broadcasting, business and sponsorship. Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 17 years of age.<p><strong>Admission requirements for all applicants</strong><p><strong>Supplementary Application Form</strong><br>All applicants are required to complete the Bachelor of Sports Media Supplementary Form. This form will be emailed to you. <p>Applicants are required to submit a completed Bachelor of Sports Media Business Supplementary Form at the interview if this has not been emailed prior to the interview. The Supplementary Application Form details the applicant's education history in addition to their higher education and career aspirations.<p>The supplementary form is complementary to the interview, and the ATAR score where applicable, in terms of assessing the applicant's suitability for the course.<p><strong>Interview</strong> <br>All applicants are required to have an interview with an academic staff member with the intent to learn more about the qualification and the expectations of higher education study at Holmesglen.<p>This is also an opportunity for the student to display their enthusiasm and aptitude relative to both their education and their career aspirations.<p>Face-to-face interviews are preferred although teleconference interviews can be arranged as required. Interviews are approximately 30 minutes.<p>Applicants will be contacted by Holmesglen regarding their interview appointment. <p>All applicants are required to bring their completed Supplementary Application Form if this has not been emailed prior to the interview. Applicants who have completed previous qualifications are also required to bring with them the qualification certificate and the academic transcript.<p><strong>Applicants with Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years)</strong><br>• ATAR - This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations. <br>• You will need to fill in a supplementary application form.<br>• You will be required to attend an interview. Holmesglen will contact applicants to arrange the interview and details will be confirmed by mail or email. Prior to enrolment or commencement of this higher education program, you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment. This will assist with determining your suitability to the course, and identify any learning support needs.<p><strong>Advanced standing</strong><br>Students may be eligible for credit in some subjects based on previous study in a related area and will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Course Structure


All new students commencing in a higher education course must attend their faculty course orientation and Holmesglen's higher education orientation. <p><strong>Major studies</strong><br>Sports journalism, digital sport, media production, public relations, social media, sport sponsorship, sports broadcasting, sports marketing.<p><strong>Work placements/Internships:</strong> <br>In the third year of the degree students are required to undertake a 228 hour (six-week full-time equivalent) internship which provides experience that assists with a seamless transition into the workforce upon fulfilling the course requirements. <p>We have some of Australia’s leading media and sports organisations as internship hosts including but not limited to the Herald Sun, Fox Footy, SEN1116, Melbourne Stars, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Basketball Victoria. <p>The course is designed around four main strands of media, journalism, communications and sport. <p>The course consists of 23 subjects: 19 six credit point core subjects, 1 twelve credit point core subject and 3 six credit point elective subjects.

Student Services and Amenities Fee $351 Per Year

All local higher education students are required to pay a compulsory Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). This fee contributes to the cost of providing student support services including counselling, welfare services, learning support and other activities provided by the student support and wellbeing teams. The SSAF is charged each semester and the amount you pay depends on whether you’re a full time or part time student. The annual maximum amount is set by the Government and will vary according to your study load. Students studying on campus and online will be charged the same SSAF based on their study load. All local higher education students are required to pay this fee at the time of enrolment.
