Studying the Bachelor of Sports Media at Holmesglen

At Holmesglen, you’ll develop practical and creative skills for today’s fast-moving sports and digital media industry. The Bachelor of Sports Media combines industry-relevant theory with hands-on learning in sports journalism, media production, broadcasting and digital content creation. Delivered in partnership with the <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/our-institute/partners-and-projects/local-industry-partners/saints-sports-program">St Kilda Football Club</a>, the course offers strong industry engagement and internship opportunities. Experienced educators provide ongoing support to help you graduate confident, adaptable and ready for diverse sports media careers.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 17 years of age.<p><strong>Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years) </strong><br>An applicant may be admitted to the course after successfully completing VCE (or equivalent) in which they have successfully completed one of the following: <br>• Units 3 and 4 in English other than EAL with a study score of at least 25.<br>• English as an Additional Language (EAL) with a study score of at least 30. <br>ATAR will be considered as part of selection considerations.<p><strong>Vocational Education and Training (VET) Study</strong><br>Completion of an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline from any Australian Registered Training Organization will be considered.<p><strong>Higher Education Study</strong><br>Applicant’s entire academic record will be considered as part of selection considerations. Full or partial completion of a Bachelor degree level qualification may satisfy course academic pre-requisites.<p><strong>Work and Life Experience</strong><br>Applicants who left secondary school more than two years ago and have not undertaken approved prior study or informal learning may demonstrate the equivalence of admission requirements through a combination of factors such as professional experience, community involvement or non-formal tertiary education preparation programs.<p><strong>Supplementary Application Form</strong><br>Applicants will need to fill in a supplementary application form before the interview. Holmesglen will contact applicants to arrange an interview and details will be confirmed by mail or email. Prior to enrolment or commencement of this higher education program, you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment. This will assist with determining your suitability to the course, and identify any learning support needs.

Internship hosts include leading Australian media and sporting organisations such as Herald Sun, Fox Footy, SEN1116, Melbourne Stars, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Basketball Victoria.<p>The course is designed around four integrated strands: media, journalism, communications and sport. This course comprises 23 subjects, including 20 core subjects and three elective subjects.
