Studying the Certificate II in Sport and Recreation at Holmesglen

During this course, you'll engage in diverse sports-related units and acquire foundational skills for instructing and officiating in various games and sports. <p>Furthermore, you'll gain insight into the sporting industry and relevant workplace competencies. Topics will include preparing for sporting and recreation sessions, session conduct, first aid, and client interactions. The range of sports covered will be customized to match your interests.<p>This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students, also known as VDSS (previously VETiS) course and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCE VM program.<p>Learners who complete the SIS20122 Certificate II in Sport and Recreation will be eligible to receive credit towards the SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation.

Entry Requirements

• Must be a current secondary school student enrolled in the VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS) program<br>• Available to students in Years 10, 11 or 12 at a school with a Holmesglen Service Agreement<br>• Learning needs must be discussed at school level and assessed by the school coordinator before course commencement<br>• Suitability assessment and student information are provided to Holmesglen by the school<br>• Students must have the physical capacity to work in active environments such as fitness centres, sports grounds, aquatic and leisure facilities, and community recreation centres<br>• Must be able to follow Manual Handling and WHS requirements
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, learners must meet the LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy) and digital literacy requirements of the program. Learning needs are assessed by the school coordinator to confirm suitability for the course and identify any required support. Learners must also have an interest in sport and recreation and the physical capability to participate safely in activities.
There are no specific entry requirements listed in the training package. This course is delivered as part of the VET Delivered to Secondary Schools (VETdss) program and can only be completed while undertaking a VCE or VCE VM program.<p>Learners must be currently enrolled in a secondary school and be in Year 10, 11 or 12 at a school with a VETdss Service Agreement in place with Holmesglen. Prior to commencing the course, students are required to discuss their learning needs at school and be assessed by their school coordinator for suitability. Information about the student’s learning needs will be provided to Holmesglen.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Timetable

Classes run on Wednesday from 9.30am - 12pm<br>Please note that the timetable is subject to change.<p>You will complete an exciting range of sporting-related units and develop a basic level of skills for instructing and officiating in a variety of games and sports. <p>You will also develop knowledge of the sporting industry and relevant workplace skills. You will learn about the preparation and equipment required for sporting and recreation sessions, how to conduct these sessions, first aid and how to deal with clients.<p>There will be a wide variety of sports covered that will be tailored to your interests.<p>To receive the qualification you are required to complete the work and assessments within each unit of competency. There are 10 Units of competency, 6 core and 4 electives.
