Darren Lieu

Bachelor of Hospitality Management

Darren’s hospitality career began with an internship at Walt Disney World, where he developed a strong passion for the industry’s energetic, guest-oriented atmosphere. 

This experience led him to transition from biostatistics to hospitality management. After gaining leadership experience at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, where he was promoted to In-Room Dining Operations Lead.

Darren has since joined the pre-opening team at 1 Hotel Melbourne, a brand globally recognised for its sustainability and eco-conscious foundations. A strong advocate for environmental responsibility, Darren continues to drive sustainable initiatives, embedding these practices into daily operations and contributing to the hotel’s mission of creating a positive impact on both people and the planet.

Kirra Johnston

Bachelor of Sports Media

Kirra has shown unwavering dedication to excellence throughout all four years of her studies, consistently achieving a distinction average across her assessments. Balancing academic success with hands-on industry experience, she has completed three internships—including the highly sought-after placement with Fox Footy—while also holding multiple part-time roles within the industry.

A natural leader, Kirra is known for her ability to deliver outstanding work and inspire those around her. Her contributions extend beyond the classroom; as a member of the Course Advisory Committee, she has played an important role in offering student-led feedback and recommendations to help enhance the degree program.

Deeply passionate about industry and community engagement, Kirra regularly volunteers her time, demonstrating a strong commitment to making a meaningful impact.

Kyle Taylor

Bachelor of Fashion Design

A driven and highly capable designer, Kyle has consistently demonstrated commitment and creativity throughout his time at Holmesglen. He began his fashion journey in a certificate program and, with determination to build a lasting career in the industry, progressed into the degree course to further develop his skills.

During his studies, Kyle has been actively involved in Melbourne Fashion Week each year. Starting with assisting backstage and dressing models, he advanced to the position of stylist assistant, showing growth and initiative in each role he took on.

He has embraced every opportunity available through the fashion department, securing internships with leading names like Marianna Hardwick and Melbourne Textile Knitting Company.
